A lot of rumors float around during election time to influence a decrease in voter participation, and desparation relies on the naïveté of first time voters to dispel myths to misconstrue as factual information for their digestion. So in order to stomp out any potential rumors and to increase voter participation, here are a few things to consume for nourishment on the way to the polls.
Five things NOT to believe while visiting the Polls on Election Day
- If your job tells you that you can’t vote on Election Day – IGNORE it. Just be sure to get a Certificate of Participation from the election judges at the polling station.
- If any election judge tells you that you can’t take printed material inside of the polling booth – don’t believe it. You’re allowed to take printed materials inside the booth to help with your selections.
- If you’re informed while standing in line that voting has been extended through the end of the week for convenience, Don’t Believe the Hype. Stand firm and stay in line to exercise your right to vote.
- If someone tells you there is a mandatory dress code and you’re not dressed appropriately to vote –Don’t Believe the Hype. Voters are able to wear clothing, buttons and stickers with political messages while voting.
- If you are still in line at 8:00pm, and someone tells you that the polls have closed and you can’t vote — Don’t Believe the Deceit. As long as you are in line before 8:00pm, you will be able to cast your vote.
Remember to stand firm in your knowledge, your right to vote, and the difference your voice can make. Be a part of the process and be counted on Election Day – November 6th, 2012.
