A Uniformed Society

If we drive the same car, wear the same clothes and date the same type of man, our world would be a safer place—you think?

Sometimes I wonder if the world functioned on one set standard, the thought of “keeping up with the Jones’ would never cross our minds. I’ll even be the first to admit that I would probably never think about what I didn’t have or wanted if the person driving next to me didn’t drive a bigger truck, and the woman three doors down from my house didn’t grow greener grass. No one is ever satisfied with what they have, so we build our hopes and dreams on striving to get the same purse, watch and car as the person sitting next to us.

Those who can’t afford buying the exact object will then turn to the mentality, “I want it so I’ll take it”, which leads to the inflation of crime in our neighborhoods, schools – the whole world. If we didn’t live in a creative world that is constantly reinventing the same products giving you different varieties, we would definitely have fewer choices to make. Besides, how frustrating is it to have to choose between 20 different cell phones with 35 unique options that allow you to choose from hundreds of downloadable ring tones.

A reduction in choices will reduce the urge to take what someone else has and others can’t afford. Crime rates will drop in all neighborhoods, because everyone will own the same house, with the same wall colors and come furnished with the same electronics and furniture. This will bring more unity in the communities and everyone will engage in conversation more as they enjoy life more – and plus, there will be a Pottery Barn in the nucleus of every neighborhood! You see, bad guys will avoid anything that doesn’t stand out!
